Survival Guide: Fresh Start

Fresh starts always sound amazing. It’s like setting up a new Sims game. You get to choose who you want to be, where you will live, and how you will behave. It is almost like a second chance at life. You simply push the reset button and you get a clean sheet.

Fresh starts can be defined as a period in your life, when you move from one place to another, or start a new school or job. Any kind of situation, when you are becoming a part of a new community.

Sounds good, right?

But there are a few things you should always consider, when getting a fresh start.

  1. Never be anything that you aren’t

There is no point in faking that you are something else, then what you really are. Sooner or later, you won’t be able to keep up with the “play” and everyone will find out. Just be yourself, and once you accept who you are, people will accept you too. You are amazing in a way you are, there is no need to be try and be something else. The original version of everything is always the best.

  1. Don’t label

That is a common mistake we all do, that as soon as we enter a room full of strangers we start labeling them, by this not even first impression. Later, when you are trying to make a connection, it will be very hard to separate yourself from these labels, and you will miss out on amazing people and opportunities.fresh-start-quote-jokotade-4

  1. Make a plan or just go with the flow

Whichever applies to you, just go for it.
When entering a new job or city or school, there are certain steps we all need to make. If you are the type of person, who likes to plan and make sure, you do everything by the list, be prepared. Create milestones for yourself, and work towards them. If you like going with the flow and figuring out things on your own, then do that. But most importantly, do something. Don’t be stuck. Grow and improve. Take in everything around you, and try to get as much as possible out of your fresh start. There are not many opportunities to start over in life, so use it wisely.

4. It’s okay to be shy

At first, we all are shy, and quiet. Observing and taking in a new environment is totally okay. If you don’t feel comfortable being the loudest from day one, especially if you are new to a workplace, it is totally fine. As soon as you get comfortable, they will hear your voice enough.

  1. Don’t be afraid

This is the bottom line. Whatever you do, enjoy it. There is no point of doing anything if you don’t enjoy doing it. Find something that makes you happy and stick with it. Don’t be afraid of new things, you will learn eventually, and in a few months, you will be grateful. The unknown is always scary, but also exciting. That is how you grow. Allow yourself to be a little scared, but never get discouraged by that fear!

  1. Never give up on your dreams.

This is self-explanatory, but I guess fresh starts give you an extra motivation to set new goals, and to work towards the. So, if you find yourself in a situation where you are handed a clean sheet, make sure you fill it up with your dreams. Soon that list of dreams will become your to do list.
